두로 왕 히람의 찬양

    “히람이 솔로몬의 말을 듣고 크게 기뻐하여 이르되 오늘 여호와를 찬양할지로다 그가 다윗에게 지혜로운 아들을 주사 그 많은 백성을 다스리게 하셨도다 하고”(열왕기상 5장 7절)

 

 

    솔로몬의 성전을 건축하고자 하는 뜨거운 열정을 보고 이방 나라인 두로 왕 히람이 깊이 감동하여 여호와가 자기의 백성 이스라엘에게 복을 베푸신다는 것을 인정합니다. 그 인정의 근본이 여호와께 있음을 알기에 히람은 하나님을 찬양합니다.
 
    히람이 이처럼 여호와를 찬양한 것은 여호와를 유일신으로 인정한 때문이 아니라 단지 다신(多神) 사상에 입각하여 여호와를 많은 신 중의 하나로 인정한 것에 불과합니다. 물론 역대하 2:11에는 여호와를 창조주로 인식하는 그의 언급이 있긴 하지만 그렇다고 해서 그가 진정한 여호와 신앙을 가졌다고 생각할 수는 없습니다. 대신 그의 주요 관심은 이스라엘과 정치, 경제적인 우호 관계 유지에 있었으므로 의례적인 인사로 여호와를 찬양하였을 것입니다. 이러한 사실은 당시 페니키아인들이 여호와가 아닌 바알을 주된 신으로 섬긴 점에 의해서도 뒷받침이 됩니다.
 
    믿음의 자녀인 우리는 히람과 같은 마음으로 찬양해서는 안 됩니다. 성경에 의한 기독교의 모든 체계의 필수적인 기초가 되는 원리는 우주의 기원이 알 수 없는 원인에 의하여 존재하게 된 것이 아니라, 창조주요 인격적인 영광의 왕이요 살아계신 성경의 하나님으로부터 말미암았다는 확신에서 출발하는 것입니다. 이러한 확신이 가슴 깊은 곳에서부터 솟아 드리는 찬양이 우리 주님께서 기뻐하시는 찬양입니다.
 
    솔로몬이 주의 일에 뜨거운 열정을 가졌을 때 이방인인 히람의 마음까지 감동시켜 성전 건축의 대역사를 이룰 수 있었습니다. 우리는 하나님은 이렇게 이스라엘 뿐 아니라 이웃 이방국가를 동원해서라도 영광을 받으시길 바라신다는 것을 알아야 합니다.
 
    오늘을 사는 성도들도 하나님 나라를 건설함에 있어서 솔로몬과 같은 뜨거운 열정을 가질 때에 믿지 않는 사람들의 마음에 감동을 일으켜 선을 이루는데 합력할 수 있도록 하나님께서 도우실 것입니다(롬 8:28).
 
    모든 것이 선을 이루는데 그것은 선천적인 힘이나 어떤 기회로 말미암는 것이 아니라 하나님의 역사(役事)로 말미암아 이루어지는 것입니다. 하나님의 영이 우리를 도우실 뿐만 아니라 하나님의 섭리가 ‘모든 일에서 선을 이루시기 위하여’ 우리와 같이 일하고 계십니다.

  "When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was greatly pleased and said, “Praise be to theLordtoday, for he has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation."(1 King 5:7)

 

    Seeing Solomon's passion to build the temple, Hiram, the king of Duro, a strange country, is so moved that he admits that the Lord blesses his people Israel. Hiram praises God because he knows that the foundation of his recognition lies with the Lord.


    Hiram praised Jehovah not because he recognized him as a single god, but because he recognized him as one of the many gods based on polytheistic ideas. Of course, there is a mention of him recognizing Jehovah as the creator in 2:11, but that does not mean that he has true Jehovah's faith. Instead, he would have praised Jehovah as a ritual because his main interest was in maintaining political and economic friendship with Israel. This fact is also supported by the fact that the Phoenicians at the time served Baal as their main god, not Jehovah.


    As children of faith, we should not praise them with the same heart as Hiram. The principle that is the essential basis of all Christian systems by the Bible begins with the conviction that the origin of the universe did not exist for unknown reasons, but that it came from the living God of the Bible and the king of personal glory. The praise that this conviction rises from the deep inside of our hearts is the praise that our Lord rejoices in.


    When Solomon had a passion for the work of the Lord, he even touched the heart of Hiram, a stranger, and achieved the great history of temple construction. We must know that God wants to be honored not only by Israel but also by mobilizing neighboring foreign countries.


    When the saints who live today have the same passion as Solomon in building the kingdom of God, God will help them to impress the hearts of the nonbelievers and join them in achieving good (Rom. 8:28).


    Everything is good, not through innate strength or any opportunity, but through God's history. Not only is the spirit of God helping us, but God's providence is working with us to "make good in everything."
