    앞서 말한 과학과 철학 상의 대발견이 어떻게 음악에 영향을 주었는가, 또는 뉴턴, 라이프니츠, 버클리, 볼프, 린네 등이 바흐와 헨델과는 어떤 관계가 있었는가 하는 질문이 마땅히 생기게 된다. 바흐가 라이프니츠의 철학이나 미분법의 논리를 공부하지 않으면 안 되었다든지, 헨델이 린네의 식물분류법이나 버클리의 이상주의 철학에 몰두했다든가 하는 것을 1/10,000이라도 믿는 사람은 없다.
 
    이러한 공부는 위대한 음악가들에게는 아마도 불필요했을 것이다. 그들이 긴요하게 필요로 했고 또한 예술 작업에 크게 유효했던 것은 폭넓은 착상과 깊은 철학적 사색이라는 새 정신이며, 이 정신이야말로 기념비적 백과사전적 체계와, 과학을  포괄적으로 보는 관찰법을 도입한 것이다.
 

 
    바흐와 헨델은 바로크 음악의 시대를 절정으로 끌어올려 마침내 결정적인 종말로 몰고 간 것이다. 그들이 비범한 재능을 가진 바로크 음악의 선구자들을 높게 뛰어넘을 수 있었던 것은 무엇에 의한 것이었을까 하는 물음에 대해서, 다음과 같이 답할 수 있을 것이다.
 
    즉, 그것은 날카로운 통찰력과 투철한 직관력에 의해서 그들이 시대의 정신을 파악하고, 과학과 철학의 성과에 응해서 음악도 또한 거대한 작업에 착수해서 새로운 미적 이념을 조직적으로 철저하게 적용시키면서 형식 및 내용의 엄청난 문제와 대결할 수 있는 때가 왔다는 것을 인식했다는 것이다.
 
    음악의 선배들로부터 배운 것에 그들이 더한 것은, 예술 상의 넓고 체계적인 여러 문제의 새로운 파악 방법이었는데, 이러한 투시는 17세기에서는 볼 수 없었던 것이다. 그들은 스스로에게 주어진 작업의 무거운 부담감에 알맞은 기법을 체득하고 있었고 그들의 분방함은 자신감과 충분한 힘에 바탕을 두고 있었다.

    The question arises as to how the aforementioned great scientific and philosophical discoveries influenced music, or how Newton, Leibniz, Berkeley, Wolf, and Lynne related to Bach and Handel. No one believes even 1/10,000 that Bach had to study Leibniz's philosophy or the logic of differential methods, or that Handel was immersed in Lynne's plant classification or Buckley's idealistic philosophy.

    These studies were probably unnecessary for great musicians. They needed a new spirit of broad conception and deep philosophical contemplation, which introduced a monumental encyclopedic system and an observation method that comprehensively views science, which they needed and were highly effective in their artistic work.

    Bach and Handel brought the Baroque era to its peak and finally brought it to a decisive end. The question of what allowed them to surpass the pioneers of Baroque music with extraordinary talent can be answered as follows.

    In other words, through sharp insight and strong intuition, they understood the spirit of the times, and in response to the achievements of science and philosophy, music also embarked on a huge work, systematically and thoroughly applied new aesthetic ideologies, and recognized that the time had come to confront the enormous problems of form and content.

    What they added to what they learned from their seniors in music was a new method of grasping a number of broad and systematic problems in art, which was not seen in the 17th century. They learned techniques suitable for the heavy burden of work given to them, and their voluptuousness was based on confidence and sufficient power.
