삿포로 여행 2일차: 도시의 풍경 속에서 자연과 역사를 만나다(Day 2 of My Sapporo Trip)

삿포로에서의 둘째 날 아침은 상쾌한 공기와 함께 시작되었습니다. 잠에서 깨어나 숙소를 나서자마자 뜻밖의 선물이 저를 맞이했습니다. 숙소 바로 옆으로는 맑은 시냇물이 졸졸 흐르고 있었고, 그 속에서는 알록달록한 잉어들이 유유히 헤엄치고 있었습니다. 도심 한가운데에서 이렇게 청량한 자연을 만날 수 있다는 것이 놀라웠습니다. 잉어들의 움직임을 한동안 바라보며, 삿포로가 가진 여유로운 분위기에 흠뻑 취했습니다.

아름다운 시냇물을 뒤로하고 오도리 공원으로 향하는 길, 또 다른 예상치 못한 풍경이 눈앞에 펼쳐졌습니다. 붉은 도리이가 인상적인, 이름 모를 사원이었습니다. 고요하고 엄숙한 분위기를 풍기는 사원의 모습은 도시의 활기찬 모습과는 또 다른 매력을 선사했습니다. 잠시 발걸음을 멈추고 사원의 건축 양식과 주변 풍경을 감상하며, 일본 특유의 정취를 느낄 수 있었습니다. 붉은 도리이 아래를 지나 사원 안으로 들어서니, 마치 다른 세상에 온 듯한 평온함이 감돌았습니다.

사원을 나와 다시 오도리 공원 방면으로 걷다 보니, 삿포로의 도심을 누비는 트램이 보였습니다. 옛스러운 디자인의 트램이 현대적인 건물들 사이를 오가는 모습은 마치 시간이 섞여 흐르는 듯한 독특한 풍경을 자아냈습니다. 트램의 바퀴가 레일 위를 지나는 소리마저 정겹게 들렸습니다. 언젠가 기회가 된다면 저 트램을 타고 삿포로 시내를 한 바퀴 돌아보고 싶다는 생각을 했습니다.

드디어 오도리 공원에 도착했습니다. 마침 '꽃 페스티벌 2025'가 열리고 있어 공원은 형형색색의 아름다운 꽃들로 가득했습니다. 만개한 꽃들의 향기가 코끝을 스치고, 푸른 잔디밭 위에는 사람들이 삼삼오오 모여 피크닉을 즐기거나 여유롭게 산책을 하고 있었습니다. 도심 속 넓은 공원에서 이렇게 평화로운 시간을 보낼 수 있다는 것이 삿포로의 큰 장점이라고 느껴졌습니다. 꽃들 사이를 거닐며 사진을 찍고, 잠시 벤치에 앉아 따뜻한 햇살을 만끽했습니다.

공원에서 나와 다음 목적지인 삿포로 시계탑으로 발걸음을 옮겼습니다. 정식 명칭은 '구 삿포로 농학교 연무장'이라는 설명을 듣고, 삿포로의 유구한 역사에 대해 다시 한번 생각하게 되었습니다. 삿포로 시계탑은 서양식 건축 양식으로 지어진 아름다운 건물로, 시계탑 위로는 큼지막한 시계가 시간을 알리고 있었습니다. 붉은 별 문양이 인상적인 이 건물은 삿포로의 상징 중 하나라고 합니다. 건물 앞에서 잠시 시간을 보내며, 삿포로의 개척 역사와 현재가 공존하는 모습을 느꼈습니다.

마지막으로 향한 곳은 삿포로 TV 타워였습니다. 오도리 공원 동쪽에 우뚝 솟아 있는 이 타워는 삿포로의 랜드마크 중 하나입니다. 타워 아래에는 흥미로운 풍경이 펼쳐져 있었습니다. 바로 삿포로의 대표적인 맥주인 '삿포로 클래식'을 판매하는 가판대가 마련되어 있었던 것입니다. 시원한 맥주와 함께 간단한 안주를 즐길 수 있는 공간은 많은 사람들로 북적였습니다. 저녁이 되면 더욱 활기찬 분위기가 될 것 같았습니다. 아쉽게도 아직 낮 시간이라 맥주는 다음 기회로 미루었지만, 삿포로에서의 저녁을 상상하며 잠시 즐거운 상상에 빠져들었습니다.

삿포로에서의 둘째 날은 도시의 활기 속에서 자연의 평온함과 역사의 흔적을 동시에 느낄 수 있었던 시간이었습니다. 예상치 못한 곳에서 만난 시냇물과 사원, 그리고 삿포로의 상징과도 같은 오도리 공원, 시계탑, TV 타워까지. 삿포로의 다채로운 매력을 오감으로 느낄 수 있었던 하루였습니다. 내일은 또 어떤 새로운 풍경이 저를 기다리고 있을지 기대하며, 삿포로에서의 남은 여행을 설레는 마음으로 기다립니다.

Day 2 of My Sapporo Trip: Discovering Nature and History Amidst the Urban Landscape

My second day in Sapporo began with fresh air. As I stepped out of my accommodation after waking up, an unexpected gift greeted me. A clear stream flowed right next to the guesthouse, and colorful koi fish were gracefully swimming in it. It was surprising to find such pristine nature in the heart of the city. I spent some time watching the koi, fully immersed in the relaxed atmosphere that Sapporo offers.

Leaving the beautiful stream behind, I headed towards Odori Park, and another unexpected sight unfolded before me. It was an unnamed temple with an impressive red torii gate. The tranquil and solemn atmosphere of the temple presented a different charm compared to the vibrant city. I paused for a moment to admire the temple's architecture and surroundings, feeling the unique Japanese ambiance. Passing under the red torii and entering the temple grounds, a sense of calm enveloped me, as if I had entered a different world.

Leaving the temple and walking towards Odori Park again, I spotted the trams running through Sapporo's city center. The sight of old-fashioned trams traversing between modern buildings created a unique scene, as if time itself was flowing in a blend. Even the sound of the tram wheels on the rails felt comforting. I thought to myself that someday, given the chance, I'd love to ride one of those trams and tour the city of Sapporo.

Finally, I arrived at Odori Park. The 'Flower Festival 2025' was being held, and the park was filled with a kaleidoscope of beautiful flowers. The fragrance of blooming flowers wafted through the air, and people gathered on the green lawns, enjoying picnics or leisurely strolls. Being able to spend such peaceful time in a large park within the city felt like a significant advantage of Sapporo. I walked among the flowers, took photos, and then sat on a bench for a while, basking in the warm sunshine.

From the park, I made my way to the Sapporo Clock Tower. Upon hearing its official name, 'Former Sapporo Agricultural College Drill Hall,' I reflected once again on Sapporo's rich history. The Sapporo Clock Tower is a beautiful building constructed in a Western architectural style, with a large clock at the top keeping time. This building, with its striking red star emblem, is one of Sapporo's symbols. I spent some time in front of the building, feeling the coexistence of Sapporo's pioneering history and its present.

My last destination was the Sapporo TV Tower. This tower, soaring high at the eastern end of Odori Park, is another of Sapporo's landmarks. An interesting sight unfolded beneath the tower: a stall selling 'Sapporo Classic,' the city's representative beer. The space, where people could enjoy a refreshing beer with simple snacks, was bustling with crowds. It seemed like the atmosphere would become even more lively in the evening. Although it was still daytime and I had to postpone the beer for another occasion, I briefly indulged in pleasant imagination, envisioning a Sapporo evening.

My second day in Sapporo was a time when I could simultaneously experience the tranquility of nature and the traces of history amidst the city's vibrancy. From the unexpected encounters with the stream and the temple to the iconic Odori Park, Clock Tower, and TV Tower – I was able to experience the diverse charms of Sapporo with all my senses. I eagerly anticipate what new scenery awaits me tomorrow, looking forward to the rest of my Sapporo trip with excitement.
