하이랜드 대성당(Highland cathedral)

    마이클 코브(Michael Korb)는 항상 백파이프 음악을 좋아했습니다. 1974년 학교를 졸업하고 베를린에 온 그는 스코틀랜드 대대의 "파이프 메이저"로부터 이 특이한 악기를 배웠습니다. 스코틀랜드 사람들이 떠났을 때, 마이클 코브도 에든버러로 가서 이미 80세가 된 거장 패디 앳킨슨(Paddy Atkinson)으로부터 매일 레슨을 받았습니다. 낮에는 정원에서, 밤에는 숲에서(이웃을 위해) 있었습니다. 그는 악기를 완벽하게 다룰 수 있을 때까지 몇 년 동안  계속해서 그곳에 머물렀습니다.

 

 

    「하이랜드 대성당(Highland cathedral)」은 1982년 울리 로버(Uli Roever)와 마이클 코브가 작곡, 편곡, 프로듀싱하여 싱글 음반으로 발매되었습니다. 이후 이 곡은 모든 스코틀랜드 파이프 밴드에 의해 연주되고 세계에서 가장 잘 알려진 백파이프 멜로디 중 하나가 되었습니다.

 

    이 곡은 또한 베를린의 발트뷔네(Waldbühne)에서 600명의 음악가가 참여하는 군악대와 함께하는 주요 행사의 공연에서 주목을 끌었으며 유명한 로열 에든버러 밀리터리 타투(Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo)의 피날레에서 종종 인상적으로 무대에 올랐습니다.

 

    「하이랜드 대성당(Highland cathedral)」은 1997년에 끝난 영국 통치 기간 동안 홍콩 왕립 경찰의 노래였으며,  영국 통치의 마지막 날에 크리스 패튼(Chris Patten)에 의해 정부 청사에서 총독 깃발을 게양하는 의식에서 연주되었습니다.

    Michael Korb has always loved bagpipe music. After coming to Berlin in 1974 after graduating from school, he learned this unusual instrument from the "pipe major" of a Scottish battalion. When the Scots left, Michael Korb also went to Edinburgh, where he received daily lessons from the great Paddy Atkinson, who had already turned 80. He stayed there during the day in the garden and at night in the woods. He kept staying there for a few years until he could handle the instrument perfectly.

    The Highland Cathedral was released as a single in 1982 by Uli Roever and Michael Korb. Since then, the song has been played by all Scottish pipe bands and has become one of the best-known bagpipe melodies in the world.

    The song also drew attention from performances at major events with a military band of 600 musicians in Berlin's Waldbühne and was often impressively staged in the finale of the famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

    The Highland Cathedral was a song by the Royal Police of Hong Kong during British rule, which ended in 1997, and was played in a ceremony by Chris Patten to raise the Governor-General's flag at Government House on the last day of British rule.
