리베르탱고(Libertango)

    "리베르탱고"는 탱고의 거장 아스토르 피아졸라가 1974년에 작곡한 곡입니다. 제목은 스페인어로 “Libertad” (자유)와 "탱고"를 합친 것으로, 춤곡으로서의 고전 탱고가 아닌 진정으로 귀로 즐기는 탱고, 즉 피아졸라가 추구하던 누에보 탱고 (Nuevo Tango, 새로운 탱고)를 상징하는 곡으로 평가받습니다.

 

 

    피아졸라는 침체기에 있던 60~70년대 고전 탱고에 클래식을 접목시켜 탱고의 새로운 르네상스를 열었고, 리베르탱고에서 그가 추구하던 탱고가 무엇인지를 확실하게 알 수 있습니다. 애수 깊은 반도네온 소리에 여러 악기의 화음적 어우러짐이 조화된 힘차고도 서정성 깊은 소리가 일품이며, 피아졸라의 사후에도 여러 뮤지션들이 편곡하여 연주하였습니다.

 

    그레이스 존스의 노래 "I’ve Seen That Face Before"와 재즈 만돌린 프로젝트의 "Jungle Tango"는 이 음악을 바탕으로 작곡되었습니다. 이 곡은 탱고 중에서도 대중성이 매우 높으며, 국내에서는 TV 광고음악과 드라마 “베토벤 바이러스” 5화에서 첼로로 연주됨으로서 인지도가 높아졌습니다.
