메타버스에 대한 이해력이 문제(The problem is understanding the metaverse)

    문화체육관광부는 한국어를 배우고 K컬처를 체험할 수 있는 '메타버스 세종학당'을 운영하는데, 한 해 15만 명이 이곳에서 한국어를 배우고 있다. 수강 대기자가 1만 명에 육박한다.

    서울시는 세계 최초로 메타버스 플랫폼 '메타버스 서울'을 출범시켰다. 아바타를 생성해 입장한 후 10개의 서비스 게이트(서울광장, 서울 시청, 핀테크 랩, 기업 지원 센터, 민원 서비스 등)를 통해 행정 서비스를 받을 수 있다.

    중요한 것은, 아무리 좋은 서비스를 제공해도 이용자가 메타버스에 대한 이해력이 부족하면 무용지물이라는 점이다. 주민등록 등본 등을 발급받기 위해서는 '서울 지갑'이라는 앱을 추가로 설치해야 하는데, 홈 페이지를 이용하는 것보다 훨씬 까다롭다.

    메타버스 플랫폼을 이용하려면 아바타를 만들고 암호화폐로 거래하고 NFT를 발행하기도 한다. 음식점에서 키오스크로 주문하는 것도 어려워하는 노인층이나 메타버스 리터러시가 부족한 이들에게 메타버스는 더 높은 장벽이 될 수 있다.

    앞으로 메타버스 서비스의 완성도가 높아지면 이용자는 분명 늘어날 것이다. 또한 메타버스의 근간인 암호화폐와 NFT를 비롯한 디지털 화폐에 대한 적응력이 높은 사람은 분명 경제적 기회를 선점하게 될 것이다. 그 와중에서 심화되는 빈부 격차의 속도는 과거와는 비교도 할 수 없을 정도로 빠르고, 격차의 폭도 커질 가능성이 크다. 그러므로 대다수 일반인이 시대의 흐름에 뒤처지지 않도록 메타버스 디바이드 문제의 해법을 동시에 고민해야 한다.^[각주:1]

    In the future, as the completeness of the metaverse service increases, the number of users will certainly increase. In addition, those who are highly adaptable to digital currencies, including cryptocurrencies and NFTs, which are the basis of the metaverse, will certainly have economic opportunities. In the meantime, the pace of the widening gap between the rich and the poor is incomparably faster than in the past, and the gap is likely to widen.
