It is the only violin concerto written by Johannes Brahms and is considered one of the world's top three violin concertos, along with Beethoven and Mendelssohn's.
Brahms was so impressed by the performance of Pablo de Sarasate, the greatest violinist of his time, in 1877 that he decided to compose the Violin Concerto. Brahms wrote the song and completed it in 1878 with the advice and collaboration of Josef Joachim, a longtime friend and renowned violinist. It then premiered in Leipzig on Jan. 1, 1879.
Brahms' violin concerto is considered to be a harmonious combination of grandeur and masculine atmosphere and deep lyricism. While following the traditional three-movement format, Brahms' unique sturdy composition, rich harmony, and brilliant violin techniques. Notably, the three-movement is influenced by Hungarian gypsy music and is characterized by free and passionate rhythms and melodies.
