황제 왈츠(Kaiserwalzer / The Emperor Waltz Op.437)

「황제 왈츠」에 대해서 분명한 것은 1889년 가을, 베를린에서 즉위 1년째인 독일 황제 빌헬름 2세가 주최한 궁전 개축 피로 무도회에서 작곡자 자신의 지휘로 초연되었습니다. 그런데도 빌헬름 2세에게 이 곡이 헌정되지 않은 것은 주목할 만한 일입니다. 아마도 베를린에서 열린 무도회를 위해서 작곡된 것은 아니었던 것 같은데, 그 이유는 초연부터 초판까지의 사이가 너무나 짧습니다. 곡은 이미 꽤 이전에 완성되어 있던 것으로 추측됩니다.
이 곡이 작곡된 1889년 당시, 60세가 넘은 슈트라우스는 그야말로 황제와 같은 생활을 했습니다. 비인에만도 몇 채의 집이 있었는데, 그중에서도 이겔 거리에 위치한 그의 본집은 프란쯔 요제프 황제의 왕궁만큼은 못했지만 석조로 된 당당한 3 층 건물로 서재에는 소형의 파이프 오르간도 있었습니다.
이러한 환경이 그대로 작품에 반영되어, 그가 희가극 「집시 남작」이나 이 「황제 왈츠」를 쓸 수 있게 된 것은 그만큼 여유 있는 환경에서 살고 있음을 증명해 주는 것입니다.

What is clear about Emperor Waltz is that it premiered in Berlin in the fall of 1889 at a blood ball for a palace renovation hosted by German Emperor Wilhelm II, his first year on the throne, under the direction of the composer himself. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that the song was not dedicated to Wilhelm II. Perhaps it was not written for a ball in Berlin, because the premiere to the first edition is too short. It is presumed that the song was already completed quite some time ago.
When the song was composed in 1889, Strauss, who was over 60, lived a life just like the emperor. There were several houses in Bein alone, including his home on Igel Street, which was not as big as the royal palace of Emperor Franz Josef, but it was also a small pipe organ in his study.
The fact that this environment is reflected in the work and that he can write the play "The Gypsy Baron" or "The Emperor Waltz" proves that he is living in such a relaxed environment.
