「Polonaise de concert, Op. 4」 is the first of two polonaise composed by the Polish violin virtuoso Henryk Wieniawski (1835 - 1880). It was composed in two versions: violin and piano, and violin and orchestra. The version we know today was completed in Paris in 1852 and published in Germany as "Polonaise de Concert in D major" in 1853. It was renamed "Polonaise Brillante" when it was republished in Paris in 1858.
Originally, the piece was written by 13-year-old Wieniawski in 1848, and was dedicated to Polish violin virtuoso Karol Lipinski. This was because he was inspired by his advice and an understanding of the analytical models of past violinists.
It is a popular violin song because of its beauty and technical difficulty. Wieniawski often played the polonaise, and in 1856, he dedicated it to King William III of the Netherlands.
